What is dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a learning difference that affects the way people read, spell, and write. It is not related to intelligence but rather how the brain processes language. People with dyslexia may have difficulty recognising and manipulating the sounds in words, which can make it hard to connect letters to their sounds and read fluently.

Dyslexia can show up in different ways and vary in severity from person to person. Some common signs include reading slowly, confusing similar-looking letters or words, difficulty spelling, and struggles with remembering or organising information.

However, dyslexia does not mean that someone cannot succeed academically or in life. With the right support and strategies, individuals with dyslexia can develop strong reading and writing skills. Many successful people, including entrepreneurs, scientists, and artists, have dyslexia. It is important to provide understanding, patience, and appropriate interventions to help individuals with dyslexia reach their full potential.
